About NIT Calicut (NITC) | 2026

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut / NITC), officially known as National Institute of Technology Kozhikode, is one of India's most prestigious publicly funded technical institutions. Originally established in 1961 as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Calicut, the institute gained its current status as a National Institute of Technology in 2002 under the NIT Act, and was simultaneously declared an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

Nestled on a breathtaking 296-acre (approximately 120-hectare) lush green residential campus along the Calicut–Mukkam road, approximately 22 km east of Kozhikode city in Kerala, NIT Calicut is one of the oldest and most respected NITs in the country. The fully residential campus accommodates over 7,300 students across 12 hostels with capacity for 4,000 residents, supported by a dedicated faculty strength of 400+.

The institute is renowned for its consistently strong performance in national rankings, holding a NIRF 2025 rank of #21 in Engineering and a stellar #2 in Architecture and Planning | making it arguably the finest NIT in India for architecture aspirants. Its NAAC Grade A accreditation underscores its academic excellence, quality of faculty, and research output across 15 departments spanning engineering, sciences, architecture, and management.

NIT Calicut's 59+ programs serve diverse academic needs: from the flagship BTech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), which enjoys near 100% placement rates, to cutting-edge postgraduate specializations in areas like VLSI Design, Microelectronics, Structural Engineering, Power Systems, and Information Security. The institute also runs an active PhD research ecosystem, supported by over 76 funded startups and 18+ MoUs with institutions in India and abroad, including collaborations supporting student exchanges and joint research projects globally.

For JEE Main 2026 aspirants, NIT Calicut is a top target: with a General (Other State) CSE closing rank of approximately AIR 5,000–5,500 in the final JoSAA round, it demands consistent top percentile scores in JEE Main. Its Centre for Career Development (CCD) facilitates year-round placements, internships, and skill-building programs, making NITC graduates among the most sought-after engineers and architects in the country.
