IIT PhD students receive a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 (first 2 years) and ₹42,000 (from 3rd year onwards) funded by Ministry of Education (MHRD). IISc offers ₹70,000/month for research associates. CSIR JRF/SRF provides ₹37,000–42,000/month.
How long does a PhD take in India?+
A PhD in India typically takes 4–6 years. Minimum duration is 3 years. Engineering PhDs at IITs average 4–5 years. Humanities and Social Science PhDs can take 5–7 years. International PhDs (USA/Europe) typically take 4–6 years with full funding.
Is UGC NET required for PhD admission?+
